 "poor!" 2010-04-02
By Ms. Mica (CA - San Francisco & Goleta)
This air purifier is advertised as having a charcoal filter, which is needed to remove smells from the air. It has only a 'dusting' of charcoal on the prefilter, which doesn't remove odors for long enough to be useful. The design is also bad: the air intake and outlet aren't well separated, so after a little use, it is putting out dusty air into the room. It might be good for those who need only a HEPA filter, but they're not likely to want to breathe dusty air!

The online description of my model was inaccurate, too. As I understood it, I needed to get this model to get the charcoal filter; but actually, this model had a remote and was programmable, which I didn't want, and all [both?] the models with this round shape have the same poor charcoal filter.

 "Silence means unclean air" 2010-02-11
By C. Song (New York, New York)
This filter is, as others have noted, not as quiet as I thought it would be. On the lowest setting there is a considerable amount of noise, enough so that when the filter first automatically shut off under its programmed setting, I noticed the eery silence and got creeped out by how quiet my apartment was. I live in a 500 square feet, 1 bedroom apartment in NYC. I got this purifier from J & R a week ago and because of the good job it does in cleaning the air, I got used to the noise in exchange for not having itchy eyes and strained breathing from allergies. My allergy symptoms were so bad I was lethargic at home and felt immobilized for fear making my allergic attacks worse. I live with two cats and the difference this purifier makes in quality of life is significant.

 "it's too noisy" 2010-04-01
By Cristian Daniel Georgescu (Canoga Park, CA United States)
I was happy initial because I don't have to change the filter on Honeywell and is cheaper than Rabbit Air BioGS. I can't stand the noise level even at lowest.I can not work on computer and have it ON. It's good only if you are not in the room.

I got 2 years ago "Rabbit Air BioGS" - that is very quiet, I could sleep when is turned ON - you can not hear at all, but Rabbit is very expensive over $300 and I paid $55 for a new filter that you have to replace every 18 month. If you intend to stay in the room when is ON - forget about Honeywell. The manufacture and/or amazon should say what is the noise level.

We ordered this in an "emergency," during a pretty bad allergy event. So we were VERY disappointed when it arrived overnight --- and refused to even turn on.
